We are seeking a highly motivated Machine Learning Scientist to develop predictive models for diagnosing infectious and other diseases. The position will have a major public health impact: you will see your in silico work translated to a clinical product. This is a fantastic opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing biotech startup applying cutting-edge machine learning to solve major unmet medical needs. As an early employee, part of the job will be significant input on many aspects of the product development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, execute and document machine learning and deep learning algorithms using gene expression and clinical data as input features
  • Keep a detailed algorithm development log and communicate work in research reports, presentations, abstracts, blogs and manuscripts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or MS degree in computer science, statistics, machine learning or related field
  • 5+ years industry or equivalent experience and successful track record in applying machine learning methods on tabular data, ideally in startup environment
  • Familiarity with basic statistical methods
  • Strong python programming skills
  • Strong deep learning skills, including TensorFlow, keras or similar frameworks
  • Familiarity with Bayesian learning is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Prior work with life-science data is a plus
  • Experience analyzing small-sample datasets is a plus
  • Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills; organized and efficient
  • Proven interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; excellent time management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment; able to manage competing priorities
